Many children made St Brigid's crosses at home to in honour of St Brigid's Day. Plenty of places nearby have a strong association with St Brigid, including Croghan Hill, where she is reputed to have taken the veil, and the Curragh of Kildare where she had a monastery. St Brigid is the patron saint of the diocese of Kildare and Leighlin, and her feast day is traditionally associated with the beginning of Spring.
