PE programme
As part of our Active Flag programme, we are evaluating our teaching of the PE Curriculum and ensuring that all children get to take part in all elements of it:
Games
We use this stand to develop the children's fundamental movement skills. We aim to develop hand-eye co ordination, teamwork, shooting, dribbling, passing skills. We regularly have coaching for the children in GAA and other games/codes. As well as Gaelic Football, the children have participated in tag rugby, soccer, indoor hurling and basketball events this year.
Gymnastics
We have great fun learning how to balance properly, how to jump and land safely, we developing our rolling and tumbling skills along with a host of core fundamental movement skills.
Outdoor Adventure
During the nicer weather we develop our orienteering and nature trails, We go on our guided walks and partake in some good natured outdoor fun!
Aquatics
Every summer term we go for swimming lessons to Portarlington Pool as part of our P.E. curriculum and we also complete our PAWS water safety programme because 'knowledge is power' when it comes to water safety.
Athletics
We teach the children how to run properly, how to jump and land properly, how to throw properly. We organise an 8 week 'Couch to 5k' initiative each year.
Dance
The children learn how to express themselves through free movement, balance, expressive dance and folk dance. Our 'Ceili Mor' was a central part of our Seachtain na Gaeilge celebrations this year.
