After almost eight years as Principal and 5th/6th class teacher in Clonbullogue NS, Brigid Bennett left us at Halloween 2023 to take up the position of Principal in Ballyfin National School in Co Laois. There was a gathering of pupils, staff, parents and community members on a beautiful bright Autumn afternoon at the school on October 27th.
Brigid was delighted and honoured to be presented with a tree by Cathal Meleady and Kate Gorry, on behalf of the pupils of the school, which John Corcoran helped her to plant in the school grounds. Elise Doyle and Ryan Cocoman spoke on behalf of the pupils. Cards and other mementos were presented by Ciana Feeney. Sinead McEvoy spoke on behalf of the Parents' Association, with Edel Cocoman, Catherine Furey and Joanne Galvin making a presentation on behalf of the parents of the school. Orlagh Connor spoke on behalf of the staff and Board of Management, with Karen Farrell making a presentation on behalf of the staff. David Galvin presented Brigid with flowers from Clonbullogue GAA club. Fr Greg Corcoran represented the parish, and representatives from other local groups in Clonbullogue were also present.
Brigid spoke briefly to thank the community of Clonbullogue for their kindness and support to her throughout her time as principal in the school, and to wish everyone well for the future.
